The main reasons for changes in tolling

Toll rate changes in Europe are typically driven by a combination of factors aimed at ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and financing of road infrastructure while addressing broader transportation goals and societal needs.

Some of the main reasons are:

1. Environmental: Introduction of CO2 emissions class

Belgium: In Flanders, a new zero-cent per kilometer category has been introduced for zero-emission vehicles, while tariffs in Wallonia have been indexed. The range of increase is between 5% and 17% (find out more).
Pont Øresund: The rate has been revised with an increase of about 2% (know more).
FLK Tunnel: Gained rates around 2%.
Storebaelt: Has an average rate of around 2.5% (discover here more).
Spain: The range increased from 5% to 6.65%.
Portugal: The range increase is around 2.1%.
Germany: Is the most affected Country, since is the result of the application of Co2 rates to transits in the second half of 2023 Bringing an increase around 65%.
Switzerland, Bulgaria, and Croatia: Against other countries increasing, these countries remain stable with no increase.
