Important changes in Hungarian Toll system!

Published on 02.14.2024, by Déborah Haddab

Are you aware of the recent changes in Hungary?

Hungary’s electronic tolling system (Hu-Go) has been revised to align with the EU’s Eurovignette Directive, effective from January 1, 2024.

Notable changes have been introduced, impacting toll calculation elements (external cost and infrastructure cost), toll sections (especially the M0 highway section), vehicle environmental categories, and the introduction of a new vehicle category J5, among other adjustments. Further details can be found at https://toll-charge.hu/en/e-toll/changes-in-2024 .

Additionally, the e-toll system will soon integrate buses with a maximum authorized total mass exceeding 3.5 tons. Currently, these buses are subject to a flat-rate toll for road use through the purchase of an e-vignette, but in the near future, bus operators will be required to obtain an on-board unit (OBU).
