Flag-of-Switzerland  Switzerland

Fallback solution in case the EETS OBU is technically defect / red/ not working

National device:

3 steps to be followed:

  1. Vehicle Registration
If not using and EETS device, Obligation for vehicle registration at a customs office (ZS) when first entering Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein (FL) by the driver. For this purpose the ZS issues a registration form, which is to be completed on the basis of the vehicle documents. All required data, such as the weights and the emission standard, are recorded. The driver is then issued with a vehicle-specific identification card (ID card), which subsequently enables simple and rapid clearance at the border.
  2. Registration on entry at the HVF clearance terminal (“AT” =LSVA-Abfertigungsterminal). At the HVF clearance terminals (AT) the vehicle driver must register the entry by means of an ID card and by declaring the mileage and trailer status. After that, the means of payment must be chosen
    – Fuel card,
    – Cash payment incl. debit and credit cards (e.g. Maestro or VISA card), note: a payment method processing fee of CHF 10.00 will be charged for the immediate issuing of the HVF receipt.
Finally, the AT will print a receipt in duplicate, which must be carried in the vehicle during the entire journey and presented during inspections.
  3. Procedure during the exit
On the occasion of the exit Switzerland/FL, the AT receipt must be completed by hand with the exit mileage and signed by the vehicle drivers. The original copy (section A) is intended for the exit customs office and the carbon copy (section B) for the person liable for payment. If payment is guaranteed (by a fuel card or HVF account), it is sufficient if the receipt with the exit mileage and the signature of the person liable to pay is handed in to the ZS. In the case of cash payment (incl. debit and credit cards), the payment of the tax must be made at the customs counter.
