Eurovignette Updates: Luxembourg & Sweden (2026)

Published on 11.25.2024, by admin

As of July 2026, there have been important changes to the Eurovignette system. The scheme now applies only in Luxembourg and Sweden, following Denmark’s transition to a kilometre-based road tax system in January 2025 and the Netherlands’ withdrawal from the Eurovignette system on 1 July 2026. Here’s everything you need to know to stay up to date.

Key Changes to the Eurovignette

1. Denmark’s Shift to a New Road Tax System

On 1 January 2025, Denmark replaced the Eurovignette with a kilometre-based road tax system for heavy vehicles. This system charges tolls based on the number of kilometres driven, replacing the fixed-rate Eurovignette. Operators travelling in Denmark must now use the new distance-based tolling scheme, which can be paid using interoperable Telepass SAT devices.

2. The Netherlands Leaves the Eurovignette System

On 1 July 2026, the Netherlands officially withdrew from the Eurovignette system and introduced a distance-based toll for heavy goods vehicles. As a result, the Eurovignette is now valid only in Luxembourg and Sweden.

3. Eurovignette Remains in Luxembourg and Sweden

The Eurovignette continues to be mandatory for heavy vehicles in Luxembourg and Sweden. The applicable toll rates and vignette options are set by the participating countries and may be updated periodically.

What This Means for You

If you operate in Denmark or the Netherlands, make sure your vehicles comply with the respective distance-based tolling systems. If you travel through Luxembourg or Sweden, you will still need a valid Eurovignette before using the road network.
