Extension of the UK ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation)

Published on 03.04.2025, by Milena Szczesna

Starting from March 5, 2025, the United Kingdom will extend its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system to citizens of several European countries. From that date, citizens from the listed countries will be able to apply for an ETA for travel to the UK starting from April 2, 2025.

The ETA is a digital permit that authorizes a person to travel to the UK. It is not a visa and does not guarantee entry into the country; entry will still be decided upon arrival. The ETA allows stays of up to six months for tourism, business, study, or transit. UK ETA is automatically digitally connected to your passport. It is valid for two years or until the expiration of the passport used for the application, whichever comes first.

The cost of the ETA is currently £10. Applications can be submitted via the “UK ETA” app, available on Google Play and the Apple App Store, or through the official UK government website. The application process is fast and straightforward; most applications are approved within minutes, but it is recommended to apply at least three working days in advance.

The introduction of the ETA aligns with global trends in border security and aims to create a safer travel experience.

For further details and to apply, you can visit the official UK government website.

In addition to the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) the S&S GB ENS Declarations is required for all freight vehicles entering Great Britain. While the ETA grants travel permission, the S&S GB ENS declaration is essential for your cargo to cross the border.

To avoid delays and potential issues, please ensure you submit your S&S GB declarations in advance.

If you haven’t done so yet, our free automated portal makes the process quick and easy.
