Netherlands – New Toll System from July 1, 2026

The Dutch government has officially confirmed that the Eurovignette system will be discontinued as of July 1, 2026. From this date, a distance-based tolling scheme will be introduced for all heavy goods vehicles driving on Dutch roads.

• The Eurovignette will no longer be required in the Netherlands.
• However, it will remain mandatory in Luxembourg and Sweden.

This change represents a significant shift in road charging in the Netherlands, aligning with other European countries that have already implemented distance-based tolls.

To avoid any potential disruptions, fleet operators should start reviewing their OBUs and planning for necessary upgrades now.

Czech Republic – Toll Network Opening and Tariff Adjustments

Czech Toll Network Now Available on EETS OBUs

Great news for international transport operators! The Czech Republic toll network is now live on our EETS OBUs, making cross-border travel in Central Europe even simpler.

With this integration, your OBU covers motorways and first-class toll roads in the Czech Republic, for vehicles over 3.5 tons and buses, with automatic payments and no extra devices needed.

This addition brings us one step closer to full European coverage, alongside France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, and more, all with one single OBU.

Toll rate increase from January 1, 2026

The Czech government has confirmed a 2.5% increase in toll rates for highways and Class I roads. This will include:

• A 1% increase in the base toll rate for heavy goods vehicles.
• An adjustment of the CO₂ component, which will be harmonised across all road types (motorways and Class I roads).

This update follows new legislation requiring toll rate changes to be announced six months in advance, giving carriers time to prepare. We strongly recommend factoring these increases into your 2026 transport budgets.

Slovenia – C02 CO₂-based tolling system

As of 1 November 2025, Slovenia has introduced a CO₂-based tolling system for all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

In line with EU Directive 2022/362, toll rates are now differentiated according to each vehicle’s CO₂ emission class, rewarding lower-emission vehicles with reduced toll charges.

Please ensure that your vehicle data, including emission class and EURO category, is accurately declared and verified to avoid incorrect toll rate application.

Switzerland – 2G Network Shutdown

As part of Switzerland’s ongoing network modernization, all 2G services will be decommissioned by the end of 2025.

To support transport companies, the Swiss tolling authority has granted a grace period until June 2026, giving you extra time to replace your current 2G devices with 4G-compatible solutions.

This is the right moment to proactively plan your migration and avoid disruptions. After June 2026, your 2G toll devices will no longer be operational, and their continued use could result in penalties or service interruptions.

We encourage you to review your current equipment and contact our teams if you need support in planning the migration.

Bulgaria – Transition to the Euro

Starting January 1, 2026 (00:00 local time), Bulgaria will officially join the Eurozone and adopt the Euro (EUR) as its national currency.

This transition will directly impact toll-related transactions. Here’s what you need to know:

• Until December 31, 2025 → All toll statements, payment requests, and supporting documents will continue to be issued in Bulgarian Lev (BGN).
• From January 1, 2026 onwards → All new toll-related transactions will be issued in Euro (EUR).
• Past transactions → Records in BGN before January 1, 2026 will remain unchanged and will not be recalculated.

This change aligns Bulgaria with other Eurozone countries, making toll management across Europe even smoother for international carriers.

Spanish Excise Refund and Vehicle Registration

We would like to remind our customers that Spanish excise refund is only possible for vehicles that are registered in the official Spanish Excise Portal.

This means that:

• Excise refund will apply only from the date of registration of the vehicle in the portal.
• Fuel purchases made before registration are not eligible for refund.

Therefore, whenever you purchase a new vehicle, it is important that you inform us immediately so we can register it without delay.

To avoid losing any refund opportunities, please make sure to send us the details of all vehicles acquired in the recent period.

VAT: Reminder for non-EU Clients:

Please remember to renew your VAT certificates for any countries from which you wish to claim refunds.
Each VAT certificate is valid for one year from the date of issue, so make sure your documents are up to date to avoid delays in your refund process.
